Gender Egalitarianism..

This time I ve come up with a rather different kinda topic.. ;)

My claim to be a feminist always raised eyebrows and earned me mocking looks.. After all with the prevailing misconception that feminists are misoandric, its a natural reaction to expect.. hmmm... Before I say anyth, i ll share my knowledge of history with u n bore u to my best..

Feminism dates back to eighteenth century.. It picked up speed in the 19th century when matters like woman suffrage, which, now, we take for granted, were fought for.. The then feminists are called the "Equity feminists" and worked for the equal rights of men and women.
Then comes the second wave of feminists called the "Gender feminists" of 1960s.. These are the radical feminists and are responsible for most of the conceptions prevailing now.. They wished to remove the differences between men and women in all areas of life..

And now is the third wave of feminism (consisting of generation Xers and younger).. This is milder than its predecessors.. This generation also beleives in equality of men and women and tend to advocate liberal causes..

Most of us are unaware that there exists a counterpart for feminism.. that is "Masculism".. Masculism is viewed by its proponents as ideologically analogous to feminism and by its opponents as misogyny.

I guess, the term feminism is more notorious then famous.. In fact, any person who beleives in the equality of the sexes can be called a feminist, be it male or female.. But many people argue that if one can be called a 'feminist', then he/she can be called a 'masculist' too.. hahaha.. doesnt it sound funny? May be the word "Gender Egalitarianism" is the better word that is coined to end this dispute..

I happened to read a post "Man vs Woman" by a guy named pavan.. He put it beautifully.
"Men or Women are not better than thier opposite sex. We are simply different from them. and there will always be a few from the other side who will be better than us. And we have to live with it"

How true!
In case u are wondering.. I m no feminist who hates men.. nor do I advocate the usage of the word "humanity" in place of "mankind".. lol..

I m just a Gender Egalitarian.. but somehow the word feminist makes me feel more at home than this..

sleepy n tired..
